Known for his roles in the Hollywood blockbuster The Saint and the popular romantic comedy Notting Hill, the actor was the younger brother of famous singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading.

Born in Birmingham on 30 November 1961, Armatrading began his career as a member of the Birmingham Repertory Theater stage crew and became Head Flyman at the age of 17.
He went on to join the stage crew in the National Theater’s Lyttelton auditorium and appeared playing The Messenger in the Royal National Theater Measure for Measure production after receiving the Equity card.
The actor had even more success traveling the UK as Jelly Roll Morton, one of the founding fathers of jazz in Jelly Roll Soul, before landing a series of roles at the Royal Shakespeare Company.
