A police officer was tragically killed when a van hit him while She was cycling on a rural double carriageway.
Sergeant Lynwen Thomas, 37, died on the roadside after crashing into the Welsh countryside on Thursday evening.

Super fit Lynwen was a seasoned cyclist who had previously participated in triathlons and went on a charity trip from John O’Groats to the Lands End.

While one described her as “a beautiful lady to be missed so much”, others remembered how generous Lynwen would “do anything for everyone”.

But in Carmarthenshire, near Bancyfelin, tragedy struck as we headed the busy A40 road. The van driver was arrested and questioned on suspicion of causing death by driving dangerous vehicles, and has been released under investigation ever since.

A force spokesperson said: “We regret to confirm the tragic loss of a member of the Dyfed-Powys Police family.

“Sergeant Lynwen Thomas was a respected officer who passed away yesterday after a crash.

“Our thoughts are with loved ones who want privacy at this difficult time.”

In a previous statement, police described how they were investigating the tragedy near the village of Bancyfelin, near Carmarthen, on Thursday evening.

Dyfed Powys Police said: “Officers responded to a collision involving a cyclist and a van at around 6:40 pm on the westbound A40 near Bancyfelin.
