Murder Suspect Nikim Meekins Accidentally Released from Rikers 5 Days After Arrest
A man awaiting trial on attempted murder charges was accidentally released from Rikers Island earlier this week.
Nikim Meekins was arrested on 10 March in connection with the attempted murder in May 2018. Meekins, 22, was released on March 15 due to a clerical error after a Bronx court clerk accidentally flagged him for release without bail.
It should have been held on the $ 300,000 bond for the 2018 shooting.

This came a week after the 26-year-old murder suspect Christopher Buggs was also released prematurely from Rikers.
Buggs is still free, and four Correctional Department employees have been suspended during the investigation.
