A former Nigerian beauty queen and doctoral student from Philadelphia was shot dead while sitting in her car in front of her family’s home, and now her family is in hiding because they fear their lives.

Najeebat Sule known to loved ones as Najee, was murdered on 12 March just before 6 pm, just steps away from her home at 8 800 blocks on Frankford Street.

About three weeks later, the police did not find a reason and did not make the arrest, and Sule’s family and friends started looking for answers. “I can’t think of anything that would cause someone to want to kill him,” Habibat Magaji, Sule’s close friend, told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Magaji was one of the last to see Sule alive before She was shot.

The two women had spent the previous night at Magaji’s house eating snacks and watching Netflix together.

Less than 24 hours later, Sule was sitting in his gray Toyota Corolla and exchanging text messages with Magaji. An unidentified man pulled the gun, approached the vehicle and shot it several times.

Shule’s father, Adewale Sule, heard the gunshots and left the house just in time to see the suspect’s last shot at his daughter.

I saw the man shoot my daughter.¬† hit the last round and I followed him, ‘said the father. He returned to his car.
Najeet was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where  was announced dead about 30 minutes later.

Her mother, Tawakalitu Shule, said that She last heard from Najeet two hours before the shooting and that his daughter asked him when he would come home.

All my children are crying every day because of their sisters. They really miss him. I missed my daughter, ‘She said.

Najeet survived by her parents and two sisters.

‘She was very talented, smart and fun,’ said one of his siblings to 6abc.

The family is currently staying in an undisclosed location due to unspecified concerns for their safety.

Sule and her family immigrated to Philadelphia from her hometown of Nigeria in the early 2000s.

Sule had recently earned a master’s degree in public health from West Chester University and was doing a doctorate.

She finished second in the Miss Nigeria International contest for the second time in 2019.

Friends said Sule loves shopping and travel and has an ultra-feminine style that is all-pink, reflected in the sparkly bedroom decor.
The Instagram page, which has more than 3,000 followers, features photos of the glamorous PhD student modeling a wide variety of fashionable clothes and accessories.

‘Our joke was like a Nigerian princess,’ Tamira DeSeignoria, Sule’s high school friend, told the newspaper. Whatever Najee asked for, Najee got it.

The shooting of Sule came amid the surge of gun violence in Philadelphia, where the homicide rate rose 29 percent last year.

Fox 29 reported 120 murders in the first three months of 2021 in Philadelphia, where 15 victims were children.

‘This is absolutely unacceptable,’ said Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw at a meeting on the latest crime statistics Wednesday, stressing that ‘these are the people we’re talking about’.
