Police said Williams was driving past the house at 2300 Rutland Street as his son fired several shots through the side door of the van.

Police said Williams was driving past the house at 2300 Rutland Street as his son fired several shots through the side door of the van.

Gregory Barns, the owner of the targeted house, told police he thought his family had been attacked, confusing paintball with real gunfire. He fired a shot with real ammunition that hit the boy. Police said the boy later lost his balance, fell through the open side door of the van and crushed the rear wheels.

Williams picked up his injured son, placed him in the van, and rushed to the house where the boy’s mother called 911.

The boy was later taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Status currently unknown.

The Miami Herald reported that Williams was charged with child neglect with gross bodily harm. According to a police report, the father ‘acted recklessly by agreeing to shoot paintballs from the car’. The father denied that his son had fired paintball bullets from the vehicle and said the 10-year-old was on the ground and a group of children were shooting at each other with paintball guns.

Police said Barns would not face any charges related to the shooting.
