In a Facebook video that Mark Middleton deleted two days later, he and his wife admitted that they had not entered the Capitol but had participated in the uprising.

We are on the front line. We helped overcome obstacles. Jalise and I used pepper spray, we got stuck and we got tear gas. According to the FBI, in the video, we were supposed to retreat, but more patriots were pushed forward and they are taking our house back, ‘he said.

There is a giant flag on the upper terrace. No more kidding! Jalise and I should go back to the hotel, get together, change and wear dry clothes. Make America great again! Freedom! ‘continued Mark Middleton.

The next day, Mark Middleton wrote in Facebook comments trying to defend himself and his wife: ‘Don’t believe the news media, we are not rebels or gangs. There are close to a million people here today, if not MORE. ‘

If we had planned to start a riot, by simply saying it, there would be no building left. Yet not a single building was burned, not a single shop was looted, not a single police car was set on fire! ” he continued.

The FBI said Jalise Middleton also made incriminating comments on Facebook during and after the riot. “We fought with the cops to enter the capital city and we were peppered and beaten, but god patriots are in!” she wrote in a post.

In another comment, “I and my husband were pushing towards the capital on the front lines and we crossed the fences, but then we were beaten by a policeman and we were bored with pepper so we had to retreat, but you see all our patriotic friends come in.

On January 21, a whistleblower who was friends with his daughter Jalise Middleton contacted the FBI, sharing his suspicions that the Middletons were involved in the riots, saying that the couple posted their Facebook videos and then deleted them.

On January 6, the FBI was able to identify the Middletons based on the different clothes they wore, and found police body camera videos showing them fighting Capitol cops as part of a crowd trying to cross the barricades.

The FBI said the attack took place a few meters from the media tower, near the bicycle rack barricade line at the base of the Western Front of the Capitol building.

According to the FBI, the bodycam video shows Mark Middleton pushing against the police line and yelling ‘damn’ when ordered to return. In the video, the FBI shows Mark Middleton crossing the barricade to capture a Capitol cop in a fight that continues ‘over 30 seconds’.

The FBI said that Jalise Middleton was also caught holding the camera and repeatedly hitting an officer with his hand.

Both Middletons have been charged with the following crimes: assault on a federal officer, obstruction of law enforcement officers during civil unrest, obstruction of Congress, entering or staying there for restricted grounds, irregular and disturbing behavior for limited grounds, resort to physical violence on limited grounds, and violent entry / irregular behaviour.

Mark and Jalise Middleton are in federal custody, and DailyMail.com was unavailable on Saturday. It was unclear if they had a lawyer to speak on their behalf.

More than 400 people have been charged in connection with the Capitol attack, and federal prosecutors said they expect to file a criminal complaint against at least 100 people on Thursday.
