A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “At this early stage, officers are open-minded about the cause of this incident, but are aware of the proximity of the two stabbings on January 11th.”
Since these events, local officials have increased patrols in the area, and these will continue. Mr. Street, who worked as a dryer, was a father and step-grandfather.
Officers attended the scene on Neasden Lane North with paramedics and found that Bay Street had been injured by a knife. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, he died at the scene.
The victim’s closest relative was informed and supported by expert officers. In the autopsy examination performed on 13 January, the cause of death was given as a stab wound in the chest.
Murder desk detectives attribute the fatal stabbing to another attack about ten minutes ago on Neasden Lane near the bus stop near the Press Road intersection.
The victim was stabbed by a lone man who fled the scene. The male victim was hospitalized for treatment and has since been discharged.
At this stage, detectives believe that both attacks were carried out by the same lone male suspect. For now, they are not publishing a description of the suspect.
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Williams said: ‘This is a murder investigation and I’m working with a team of private detectives to get answers to Leon’s grieving family. We are making progress and following several lines of research, and our research receives really useful support from Neasden and the local community around it.
But there are others who may have information that can help us. We may be under lock and key, but there were people around Neasden Lane North on Monday evening who saw or heard something suspicious. I need these people to stand out.
In particular, I would like to hear from anyone who has seen a man running between 21:00 and 22:00 in the North Neasden Lane area, and indeed from anyone who has seen a man hanging in the area in recent weeks.
‘I believe the suspect lives locally, and I ask local people to contact if they know someone who has been acting suspiciously on a Monday and the following days – for example, throwing the clothes or just looking anxious for no apparent reason?
Officers are doing extensive CCTV surveys, and I’m sure we’ve put together what happened on Monday night, along with information from the local community.
Please do not delay contacting us if you have information that can help. Even the smallest details can be extremely important.
