Larry King, who became an icon with his interviews with numerous reporters and his tailoring sensibilities, has passed away. He was 87 years old.
His son, Chance, confirmed King’s death on Saturday morning.
King has hosted “Larry King Live” on CNN for over 25 years.
A statement was posted announcing his death on a verified Facebook account.
Ora Media announced with deep sadness the death of our co-founder, host and friend Larry King, who passed away this morning at the age of 87 at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. “The radio, television and digital media platforms, Larry’s thousands of interviews, awards and global acclaim stand as a testament to his unique and enduring talent as a broadcaster.”
The reason for death was not given in the statement.
A source close to the family said King was hospitalized with Covid-19 in Cedars-Sinai in early January.
He struggled with a range of health problems, having had several heart attacks. In 1987, he underwent five-bypass surgery that inspired him to found the Larry King Cardiac Foundation to provide assistance to the uninsured.
More recently, King announced that he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017 and was successfully operated to treat it. He also had a procedure to treat angina in 2019.
