Jonathann Daval Wiki – Arrest

Jonathann Daval sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing his wife

A man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing his wife and cremating his body in a case that shocked France.

The partially burned body of Alexia Daval was found in October 2017 in a woodland near the northeast town of Gray.

Her husband, Jonathann Daval, initially reported him as missing and told the police that he went running and never returned.

He later confessed that he beat her to death and burned her body.

The 36-year-old suspect remained indifferent as the verdict was read out on Saturday. He said “I’m sorry” when he looked at his wife’s family earlier.

Prosecutors demanded a life sentence, saying the case was “an almost perfect house crime”. What happened to Alexia Daval?
Alexia Daval was a 29-year-old banker. Her husband reported that he disappeared in October 2017, saying he was not returning from a run.

His body was found two days later, partially burned and covered with branches in a forest, far from his usual jogging path.

His death inspired a 10,000-strong walk through the town of Gray. The women also honored the runner with symbolic runs in cities in France.

Daval appeared in tears at the news conferences with his father-in-law after his death. However, three months later, prosecutors announced that he had confessed to killing his wife. She initially refused to cremate the body, but she admitted it last year.

She changed her story several times throughout the trial.

Earlier this week, when the judge asked whether he admitted that his wife was “the only person involved in his death”, he answered “yes”.
