John Gilbert Getty, grandson of billionaire oil tycoon J. Paul Getty and heir to an estimated $ 5 billion family fortune, turned out to have died from complications related to an overdose of fentanyl.

Getty, a musician, passed away on November 20 at the age of 52, and his body was found in a suite at the luxurious Hotel Emma in San Antonio, Texas.

He died of cardiomyopathy and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease complicated by fentanyl toxicity, according to the Office of the Bexar County Medical Examiner in Texas, according to TMZ.

The medical examiner’s office said the overdose was accidental.

John’s death was the last tragedy to hit the Getty family.

His death came just two months after his mother Anne Gilbert died of a heart attack at the age of 79, and John’s brother Andrew died from bleeding in 2015 with a toxic methamphetamine level in his system. ohn was one of seven children of Gordon Getty, the sole philanthropist before the Getty family’s $ 5.4 billion fortune split into six separate trusts in 1985.

John’s death was the final episode of a long tragedy that caused some to speak of a ‘Getty curse’.
