It was the result of a theft that went wrong The house was searched and Jessica’s belongings were everywhere. His throat was crushed by suffocation.
His devastated sister, Minal Patel, tried to console Mitesh Patel, her distraught husband.
“I walked straight towards him,” she said. I sat down on the sofa next to him and went to hug him and immediately buried his head on my shoulder.
“At that point I thought he was really crying. I was literally the shoulder he had to lean on.”
It was soon revealed that he had crocodile tears, and only three days later, in May 2018, it was revealed that his murder was at the hands of 37-year-old Mitesh.
The tangled web of lies began to unravel as it was revealed that he was planning to murder her while undergoing IVF in the hope of demanding a £ 2 million life insurance payment to start a new life with her gay lover in Australia. Even more disturbingly, he planned to use Jessica’s frozen embryos to start a family together.
The story behind Jessica’s murder is told in the new documentary Countdown To Murder on 5Star Tuesday at 21:00.
Jessica’s sister, Minal, 35, who lives in Leicester, recalls: “I’ve always been really close with Jessica.
“Growing up it wasn’t too loud but was very nurturing by nature and definitely romantic – she loved Bollywood movies and dreamed of having her own love story someday.
“His relationship with Mitesh seemed very affectionate at first, and every night they went over all the bullshit about who would hang up first.” The couple got married in 2009. But just a few months after their wedding, Mitesh changed.
The pharmacist began to neglect the new bride, also preventing her from seeing her dying grandfather and remained increasingly anonymous.
Unaware of Jessica, Mitesh was also using gay dating apps and started a relationship with Dr Amit Patel.
In December 2012, Jessica’s youngest sister Divya even saw messages on Mitesh’s phone announcing their love for each other. Something wasn’t right. Jessica was expressing her concern that Mitesh spent too much time on her phone and would leave the room if she came in at the time.
She knew that wasn’t true, but she took her phone with her everywhere, even to the bathroom, and she didn’t know the password to check who was talking to.
She adds: “When we told Jessica about the message from Amit, Mitesh accused her of being involved and not trusting her.”
Jessica asked her family to take a step back. And the following year, she and Mitesh moved from Leeds to Middlesborough to get a fresh start and run their own pharmacy.
In 2015, the couple even started trying a baby through fertility treatment. Jessica went through three unsuccessful IVF rounds, and meanwhile, Mitesh was planning to kill her and take the baby to Sydney. He even asked Amit Patel: “In the documentary, Forensic Medicine Consultant Dr. Do you like your own documentary on Vicky Thakordas-Desai? him-her-it. He was arrogant enough to think and feel he could stay near it. ”
Jessica’s fourth and final round of IVF saw her embryos being kept in a frozen storage clinic, and Mitesh had the opportunity to remove Jessica from the picture.
And on May 14, 2018, Mitesh carried out his evil plan by organizing a robbery in their home, strangling Jessica and strangling her with a Tesco Lifetime Bag.
He then went out and ordered pizza before calling the emergency services.
Jessica’s family was very upset. And unaware of what Mitesh was doing, he was eager to support him after his wife’s death. Minal adds: “He took my father’s hand with the hands that strangled and killed his own daughter. How can one do that? ”
But thanks to CCTV, Mitesh’s lies were quickly resolved, and the researchers found that the iPhone Health App proved that the iPhone Health App was roaming by staging the theft while Jessica’s app remained inactive. Days later, he was arrested and sentenced to life in prison for at least 30 years in prison for the killing of Jessica in December 2018.
“He didn’t show an ounce or a bit of emotion or remorse,” says Minal. “The most devastating thing is when they read a conversation between Mitesh and Amit and we learned that Mitesh deliberately trapped Jessica into loving her.
“He needed someone to show that it was true and that he lived a normal life. He had been using it all that time to cover it up. It ruined it.”
Now Minal speaks to raise awareness of coercive control and ensure no more lives are lost.
