Authorities say a man accused of murdering an 82-year-old woman at his home in Rapid City was arrested Saturday evening at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
According to online court records, James Jumping Eagle was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Reta McGovern on February 10.
A fugitive team arrested the Jumping Eagle at around 8:45 pm. Saturday, in a house a few miles south of Manderson, according to Bob Ecoffey, chief of Oglala Sioux Police. Rapid City Journal reported that the suspect was caught without incident.
McGovern, who lives alone, was found dead on February 10 with a cut in his throat. Police announced on Friday that the Jumping Eagle was identified as a suspect through forensic DNA and described it as a target crime.
Law enforcement is still investigating if they believe the Jumping Eagle has decided to target McGovern and if they know each other. More details about the murder have not been disclosed.
It was not immediately known whether Jumping Eagle had a lawyer.
