Jake Ehlinger Died
Austin police said that the younger brother of former Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger, Texas defender Jake Ehlinger, was found dead near campus on Thursday.
Officers found Ehlinger, 20, after answering a call at 12:18 pm. The police did not elaborate on how they found him, but said the death was not considered suspect. Almost no cause of death has been revealed.
Jake Ehlinger has not played for the last two seasons after arriving as a walk from Austin’s Westlake High.

Jake’s death is the second tragedy to hit the Ehlinger family. Sam and Jake’s father, Ross Ehlinger, died of a heart attack in 2013 at the age of 46 while competing in a triathlon in San Francisco. “Jake was a tremendous person and everything you could want from a student athlete,” said Steve Sarkisian, the new Texas coach. “Soon we got to know him, it was always a pleasure to be around and he gave everything he had in training, meetings, training and life.”
Colts officials said the team would support Sam Ehlinger as best they could.
