Mr. Spark said that India was “wonderful”, “always smiling” and “very well known in Whitby” and the response to the fundraising event showed “how much people love and appreciate him.”

“I have been in contact with the family and they are very grateful,” he added.

“This will pay for India’s funeral, and everything else can go to help Chris and Cole.”

A tribute on the Just Giving page co-written by the sisters of India is as follows: “India was a wonderful girl, sister, mother, friend and aunt who touched the lives of those around her.

“India has devoted her life to so many people – her precious little son Cole, her wonderful partner Chris, family and friends. While here she was not only selfless and compassionate, but she did the most amazing thing and was able to donate organs and thus save the lives of many people.

“We are proud of it and it really deserves the best submission.
