Judge Roger Hetherington told him: ‘I have little doubt that you were loitering in the park area waiting for this sort of opportunity…

‘You present a significant risk to members of the public of serious harm by the commission of further specified offences.

The judge said that Medway’s initial refusal had further traumatized the family living on the Isle of Wight.

Judge Roger Hetherington said the parents were not at all at fault, and that when Medway initially refused, he was subjected to the trauma of the criminal investigation. ”

Detective Chief Inspector Liam Davies, who led the investigation, said, ‘I am very happy that we were able to get justice for the young girl and her family in this case.

“I want to formally thank them for their brave support and the public for their overwhelming response to our objections. Both were crucial to achieving a successful conviction.

‘It is also important to appreciate the efforts of the staff at Constabulary who work 24 hours away from their families to ensure we can get this dangerous man off our streets’.

Chief Inspector Sarah Jackson, Commander of the Isle of Wight District, said: ‘The officers involved in this horrible case worked tirelessly to bring the investigation to where we are today.

“Such alien attacks on children are extremely rare, and I hope society feels safe that when we take such allegations we will take them seriously and do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.”

A NSPCC spokesperson told Isle of Wight County Press: ‘Medway’s abuse will have a profound impact on this child and his family, and it is vital to get the full support they need to recover and continue from now on.
