As police continued to search for the driver during a fatal accident that hit and fled, authorities determined that the pedestrian was the captain of the Henrico Police Department.
Pedestrian is Donald L. Lambert, Jr., a 33-year veteran in the Henrico police. It was defined as. Lambert served as captain of the division’s special operations group. Police said that Lambert was not on duty at the time of the accident.
Authorities say they currently have a vehicle of interest and a joint effort between Hanover and Henrico police to find the driver.
Police said that aerial support aircraft, aircraft, helicopters and dog units were used to find the driver. Authorities also believe there is no general threat to society.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic and untimely loss of Captain Lambert,” said Eric English, the Henrico County Police Chief. “He was a devoted leader, mentor and friend who served our community with pride and dedication for nearly 34 years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, colleagues and friends. ”
Police responded to Greenwood and Winfrey roads at 11:00 am on February 26 for hit-and-run crash reports involving a pedestrian. Greenwood Road was closed because investigators remained in the area.

First responders reported that Lambert died on the spot after the accident.
