Bruce Springsteen was arrested for DWI and recklessly drove in his home state of New Jersey late last year, authorities now announced.
National Park Service (NPS) officials confirmed to DailyMail.com that the 71-year-old Thunder Road singer was arrested at the Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, on November 14, 2020.
Springsteen was slapped by the police with three quotes: driving while drunk, careless driving, and drinking alcohol indoors.
More details about the incident have not yet been disclosed, but the rock legend was said to be ‘collaborative throughout the process’, according to NPS spokesperson Brenda Ling.
The news of the arrest came just days after 96.4 million viewers saw him starring in the Jeep commercial during Sunday’s Super Bowl.
It’s unclear whether Jeep was aware of Springsteen’s legal troubles during production. A request was made to the automaker’s parent company, Stellantis, for a comment on the matter. According to TMZ, this is Springsteen’s first known arrest for DWI. It is not immediately clear why the arrest took almost three months to emerge.
The singer will appear in court in the coming weeks, but no exact date has been announced.
The lead role of 71-year-old Jeep titled ‘The Middle’ in the Super Bowl commercial broke another first for Springsteen this week: first product approval.
The two-minute ad showed Springsteen crossing in a 1980 Jeep CJ-5 from Kansas, Lebanon, near the country’s geographic center, calling for unity. “Between red and blue, servant and citizen, freedom and fear, it is no secret that the middle has recently been a hard-to-reach place. ‘We need the middle,’ adds Springsteen.
The boss continues, ‘Fear has never been the best of who we are. We just have to remember that the land on which we stand is common ground. So we can go there. We can reach the top of the mountain through the desert. . . and we will overcome this distinction. ‘
The ad then ends with a devotion: “To the United States.” Springsteen has avoided appearing in commercials during his decades-long career.
However, its longtime executive, Jon Landau, later revealed that his decision to participate in the Jeep advertisement was completely ‘spontaneous’ and came years after the company founded it with him.
Despite being his first commercial, Landau told Rolling Stone that the hit producer had a heavy hand in the artist’s direction, explaining that his script was ‘heavily revised by Springsteen’, adding that he also participated in editing the footage.
Landau said Springsteen “controls every second of what you see and hear, and that’s why it feels so personal.”
Earlier this month, Springsteen also performed at the Lincoln Memorial at the opening ceremony of Joe Biden with a rendition of ‘The Land of Hope and Dreams’.
Springsteen opened the Celebration America event in the evening hosted by Tom Hanks.
He lives in New Jersey – near where he grew up – with his wife Patti Scialfa, whom he married in 1991.
