Skeletal remaining parts discovered lowered in a vehicle last month have been distinguished as those of a man who disappeared 17 years prior.
The dreary disclosure was made in the water off Hugh Coveney Pier, Crosshaven, Co. Plug, reports the Irish Mirror.
DNA tests were then done, with specialists affirming on Wednesday that the man was Barry Coughlan.
Barry was most recently seen in the early long periods of May 1 2004 at a bar in Crosshaven close to where his vehicle was found.
A Garda representative said: “Following DNA investigation, the remaining parts have now been recognized as that of Mr Barry Coughlan who was accounted for missing to Gardaí in May 2004.
“A record will currently be ready for the Coroner by researching Gardaí.”
The red Toyota Corolla was spotted by volunteer jumpers from Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery on May 26.
Jumpers saw the vehicle laying on its rooftop on the ocean bottom, covered somewhere down in mud and sediment, reports say.
They told examiners who fixed off the space and dispatched an inquiry activity including the water unit the next morning.
The gardaí then recovered his vehicle, enrollment 98-C-18625, after “a thing of interest” was recognized by individuals from Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery unit.
Barry and his vehicle had not been made during the hour of his vanishing, notwithstanding thorough stream look including boats and jumpers.
