Anthony Sowell The serial killer who killed 11 women dies in prison. The 61-year-old has been on death row for gruesome murders since he found the decomposed corpses of 11 women in his home more than a decade ago.

The serial killer Anthony Sowell, who brutally murdered 11 women, died in prison, Sowell was on execution at the Chillicothe Correction Institute in Ohio, where he continued to contest the horrific murder spree 14 years ago.

The 61-year-old was sentenced to death for gruesome murders after the police found the decomposed corpses of about a dozen women at the police home.

Police were investigating Sowell for alleged rape when they went to his home in Cleveland on October 29, 2009.

The officers continued to make the gruesome discovery of the two bodies. While searching the former seafarer’s home, researchers found the remains of 11 women and later identified them.

Prosecutors say he began luring his victims into his home in 2007 before the discovery. Most of the victims had a history of drug problems or were temporary, and their disappearance was not always immediately reported to the police.

The victims were said to be tied up using household items and drowned before being thrown into garbage bags and sheets.

Their remains were left in creeping voids as well as in shallow tombs or rot in the open air.

After a trial, a jury convicted him of aggravated murder, rape, kidnapping, corpse abuse, and falsification of evidence.

He was also found guilty of attempting to kill three other surviving women. In the case, the jury reportedly heard that Sowell suffered ‘a problematic upbringing, cognitive problems, psychosis and other disorders’ and was scheduled to be sentenced to death.

He initially prepared to die by lethal injection on October 29, 2012, but the appeal process meant that this never happened.

Announcing his death to Fox8, a spokesperson for the Ohio Department of Correction said Sowell received end-of-life care for a terminal illness at Franklin Medical Center on Monday afternoon, and that it was not related to Covid.

Prison officials are said to have moved Sowell from Death Row in Chillicothe to Franklin Medical Center in Columbus on January 21. Crystal Dozier, Telacia Fortson, Amelda Hunter, Leshanda Long, Michelle Mason, Kim Yvette Smith, Diane Turner, and Janice Webb.

The families of the victims were informed of her death. Speaking to Fox 8 about Sowell’s death, Tonia Carmichael’s daughter Donnita Carmichael: “I’m glad she died. God made it happen.

“I will never forgive him.”

Janice Webb’s sister, Joann Moore: “We can go on because she’s dead.

“We don’t have to hear him anymore.” Last year, Sowell made his final proposal to lower his 2011 conviction and death sentence by a panel of judges.

Sowell was first sentenced to 15 years for rape in 1990. He was said to have served 15 years before being released as a sex offender.

Then two years later, his first victim, 35-year-old Crystal Dozier, was last seen in August 2008.
