Alexander Urtula Wiki
Prosecutors said Friday that the murder case against a former Boston College student accused of encouraging his boyfriend to take her own life will go to court.
Suffolk County Attorney Rachael Rollins’ office this week partially denied the defense’s request to dismiss the defense, finding that Inyoung You’s words could have caused Alexander Urtula to kill him. Rollins’ office, the judge, dismissed one of the prosecution’s theories and ruled that not calling for help did not cause suicide.
Prosecutors say he sent thousands of messages from Cedar Grove, New Jersey, to Urtula in the last two months of their relationship, many urging him to “go and kill himself.” Urtula died in Boston on May 20, on Boston College graduation day.
The case brutally portrays Michelle Carter, who has made headlines and an HBO movie. The young Massachusetts woman was sentenced to 15 months in prison after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2017 for using text messages and phone calls to encourage her boyfriend Conrad Roy to killhimself in 2014.
For you, a lawyer said was glad the court rejected one of the prosecution’s two theories.
“With regard to the only theory left, the Court noted that this is an incredibly complex area of law and, unlike the Carter case, Ms. You had repeatedly begged her boyfriend not to commit suicide. We consider this to be a critical fact that will eventually happen. take it off, ”Howard Cooper said in a statement.
